White River Junction, VT – November 5, 2018) Irene Green, Northern Stage Associate Managing Director, has been chosen by the Board of Directors as the next Managing Director of Northern Stage. “The Board of Directors is particularly pleased to be able to make an appointment to the critical position of Managing Director from within the company’s own ranks,” says Board Chair Alfred Blum. “Irene combines her experiences at other theater companies with her over five years of familiarity and extensive involvement with Northern Stage. . . The Board looks forward with full confidence to Irene’s leadership within and outside Northern Stage.

Green came to Northern Stage in 2013 from Minnesota, where she worked with the company’s former Managing Director Eric Bunge at both the Commonweal Theatre Company and Great River Shakespeare Festival. When Bunge came to Northern Stage, he recruited Green to be the Director of Sales & Marketing. . .Carol Dunne [Producing Artistic Director] is enthusiastic about Green’s appointment. “She is a wonderful leader with a clear vision for Northern Stage's future. She brings people together beautifully and is a truly trusted collaborator. We are blessed that she is taking us on!”

In her tenure as Director of Sales & Marketing, Green strived to make ticketing more equitable and accessible. She instituted $20 Tuesdays, Student Anytime Tickets, the Library Partnership program, and the Access for All program, which offers $5 tickets to people who register their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards with Northern Stage. . . Now, 8,000 people take advantage of discounted ticket programs annually, the average patron age has decreased by 10 years, and overall main stage attendance has increased by 20%.

“I am tremendously honored to serve as Northern Stage's next Managing Director and to lead this company with Carol in the months and years ahead,” says Green. “A leadership transition is seldom seamless, but with Eric Bunge's continued involvement in the organization as well as Carol's continued tenure as the Producing Artistic Director, I am confident we will sail on smooth waters. Northern Stage is an important institution for the Twin State region and the national professional theater industry. . . This organization reminds us what is very best about being human. It has been a privilege to be a part of the work here for the last five years, and I look forward to the successes (and challenges) we will share together as we move forward into 2019 and beyond.”
