Where can you get a juicy, flavorful burger around here? Whether you want fun toppings, classic, or local beef, you can find a burger that suits your tastes in the Upper Valley. There were lots of recommendations of places that make good burgers but there were seven that were recommended over and over again.
Located in S. Royalton, the Worthy Burger was the top recommendation. They use grass fed beef and cooked over a fire. They specialize in burgers (of all types like chicken, beef, turkey, fish, etc) and have lots of local products on the menu like Cabot cheese and local beers. I like the create your own burger; that's right up my alley. A truly local burger experience. You can also go the Worthy Kitchen in Woodstock for a great burger or even a veggie burger.
At Salt Hill you get five different burger options and they all sound good. Fancy a burger with onion rings - try the Verde Mae. More of a bbq flavor with gorgonzola? Try the Cowboy. Or more protein to fill you up? Try the Jake with bacon, cheese, and an egg. Try their classic with pub sauce or just a plain tasty burger.
Another top recommendation was the chain Five Guys in West Leb., which specializes in burgers. People raved about this chain's burgers. Order one of the traditional menu options like a hamburger, cheese burger, or bacon burger, or the mini versions and add any toppings you want. (They also have different hotdog options as well like a bacon cheese dog.) Have a side of fries and a tasty milkshake. I'm not sure how I could choose between cherry, oreos, peanut butter, or salted caramel. Man. This definitely sounds like a spot to stop in the future.
People say the burger at the Pine Restaurant at the Hanover Inn is wonderful and to come hungry. They use local grass fed beef from Robie Farm. Enjoy the Hanover Burger: a burger with bacon, cheddar, chipolte aoli sauce, and crispy onions.
Mickey's had lots of enthusiastic recommendations for people to try their garbage burger. There are different types of garbage burgers: trashcan, dumpster, or landfill. These are quite entertaining names I must say. Each increases in size by the number of patties smooshed into the tasty bun with the landfill having 3 patties! Maybe this is a burger to share? These burgers have Big Mick Sauce, bacon, cheese, coleslaw, onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and chili sauce. Oh my!
Murphy's on the Green
Murphy's on the Green in Hanover won an award for their burger: shallots, rémoulade, bacon, and cheese. I particularly like the side options: cheddar cheese fritters, fried buffalo wings, and New England clam chowder. One person said it's the best burger in the area.
People also really enjoyed the burger at 56 Main, a new restaurant that opened in 2016 in Enfield. There are six different types of burgers: signature burger with sausage onions and peppers; bbq bacon; tradtional cheese; mushroom, onion, and swiss; veggie; and chicken bacon. So there are plenty of reasons to keep coming back for more to try.
