First-ever state title for a Lebanon Youth Baseball Association team.
Even though Lebanon gave up three runs in the third inning, they still defeated Barrington 14-4 in five innings on Friday, July 6th to earn the NH Cal Ripken Majors/12U 60’ State Championship.
Lebanon got things started in the first inning when Bodie Benoit doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring Zachary Aldrich. At the end of the first inning, Lebanon was on top by a score of four to one.
Lebanon continued with the strong offensive output, adding four runs in the second inning. Zachary scored on a wild pitch, and then Dom hit a deep line drive over the center-field fence. The three-run homer also scored Dawson and Bodie. With two innings in the book, the score was Lebanon 8, Barrington 1.
With some tough hops in the infield and a couple of Lebanon errors on defense, Barrington was able to score three runs in the top of the third inning. Lebanon added one of its own in the bottom of the inning, and after three the score was Lebanon 9 - Barrington 4.
Behind strong pitching by Sam Bates and solid fielding, Lebanon retired the side 1-2-3 to begin the 4th inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the bats continued to be hot and RBIs by Dawson, Bodie, and Dom helped Lebanon to the 12-4 advantage over Barrington.
Barrington opened the fifth inning with a single, but no one made it past first base as the next three plays were outs. For Lebanon, Cayden reached on an error, followed by Sam getting to first on a walk. The final hit of the game was a walk-off ground ball to left field by Alex Shareiko that scored baserunners for all the runs Lebanon would need to win thanks to the 10-run rule. Final score: Lebanon 14, Barrington 4 (5 innings). Lebanon outhit Barrington 10 to 3 in the contest.
