The Woolen Mill Comedy Club in Bridgewater, VT
Did you know the Upper Valley has a comedy club? Neither did I until I met Collen Doyle this past Monday night. He created the Woolen Mill Comedy Club three years ago in Bridgewater, VT above the Ramunto’s Brick Oven Pizza. I laughed and enjoyed meeting him so much that I was curious about the club. When he invited me to come on Wednesday night - I was in! Who doesn’t need more laughs?
Once I arrived at the Bridgewater Mill Mall, I went in the back entrance toward Ramunto’s but headed up the stairs to the right. The stairs were painted black and covered in old dust. I felt like I was entering an old speak-easy from years gone by. I had to play a bit of hide and seek to find the right door to enter. Luckily it was the only thing open on the second floor. I followed some people who were already gathering inside this hidden gem. The club was like something you’d find off the beaten track in New York City. Priceless for Vermont!
The show was a “Roast” for Collen’s 30th birthday. A cantankerous collection of comedians took turns jabbing and making fun of each other. The light heartedness held some sincerely funny bits. It felt good to laugh.
Since it was Collen’s birthday, the room was filled with friends and, of course, a birthday cake. I kept waiting for the cake to end up in Collen’s face. Too bad though– maybe next year!
Typically shows are on Friday night. Check out the Woolen Mill’s Comedy Club Facebook page for more information. We can all use more laughter! I’ll be back!
