Starting today, Monday, April 16th, I-91 southbound between exits 18 and 17 will be closed as part of a ledge removal project. The closure could last up to four weeks. Motorists are encouraged to use US Rte. 5 for their alternate route. (See map below.)
VTrans will spend nearly $1 million dollars to stabilize the ledge which is 120 feet tall at its highest point. Work will include hand scaling, trim blasting, and the installation of a Wire Mesh Rock Slope Protection System.
Southbound traffic on I-91 will get off at Exit 18 (Barnet) and follow the detour signs along Rt. 5 and VT 302 and get back on the I-91 at exit 17 in Newbury.
