The Scotland House, an adult day care facility, is preparing to open in Quechee on the site of the former Scotland by the Yard. The Scotland House will offer a community-based day program that is appropriate for older adults who still want to and can live at home but will reap the benefits of supervised programming and interaction during the day. Licensed medical staff will be on site and available to develop evolving care plans. In addition to providing programming for older adults, The Scotland House will endeavor to give this community's caregivers some measure of respite.
According to Deanna Jones, a member The Scotland House's board of directors, here is no facility like it in the Upper Valley. The closest facility that offers adult day care programs is in Springfield, Vermont. The Scotland House is not a senior center. Jones notes that while Lebanon offers a social program for older adults with impairments, the program is only available on Fridays.
The Scotland House is scheduled to open in June. At the outset, there will be 14 or fewer participants admitted while the staff irons out the wrinkles. Eventually, there will be space for a maximum of 21.
The Thompson Senior Center in Woodstock has provided and will continue to support The Scotland House, but the two are entirely separate entities.
