Big Fatty's just keeps getting bigger and better.
Big Fatty's BBQ just keeps getting bigger and better. Open since 2003, Big Fatty's BBQ in White River Junction has always been a crowd pleaser. Ample servings of pulled pork and chicken - and wings and brisket and cornbread and cole slaw and burgers and so on - and well over a dozen craft beers on tap draw crowds to Big Fatty's all week and weekend long.
But that wasn't enough. Big Fatty's opened The Crowler Pit in 2016 to appease the thirst of Upper Valley residents. (In case you don't know, a crowler is a 32 oz. serving of beer in a can - kind of like a growler but without the glass and size variations.) All the while, Big Fatty's has been operating Maple Street Catering, a come-to-you-wherever-you-are catering service that stages from Big Fatty's kitchen.
But still that wasn't enough. Big Fatty's recently entered into a lease for The Engine Room, that huge, beautiful space at the other end of the building from Elixir. Big Fatty's has re-built and expanded the bar using corrugated metal and epoxy-ed barn board.
They've put in 8 taps. There's a new sound and light system and a projector screen that drops down from the ceiling. There are 4 TV screens at the bar. They've added some neat details to the bathrooms.
And they've put in a heckuva kitchen.
Sue James oversees the operations at The Engine Room and brings with her a wealth of experience, including experience as chef at King Arthur Flour and the Norwich Inn.
What for? Big Fatty's is offering The Engine Room as a - the? - premiere event space in the Upper Valley. The Engine Room can accommodate parties of any size up to 200. The space can be used for cocktail parties, auctions, dinners, parties, birthday parties, graduation parties, dances - you name it. People who want to use the space can order off Maple Street Catering's extensive menu, Big Fatty's menu or custom order the food and drink to whatever their occasion calls for. Most of the food will still be prepared next door under the watchful eyes of Mary Pierson who has been the chef at Maple Street Catering for 11 years, but the brand spanking new kitchen at The Engine Room will serve as the rallying point.
The Engine Room is going to get a lot of use. Big Fatty's/Maple Street Catering do between 40 and 80 events a month. We think they're about to get busier. Want to check it out? The Engine Room is hosting a corn hole tournament on Monday, April 2nd to coincide with the NCAA Basketball Final. The first 20 teams to sign up can play. We're going.
Big Fatty's BBQ is owned by Brandon Fox and his parents.
