Two small Vermont towns are either selling or giving away their unused one-room school houses as part of the process of becoming part of a larger school district. Voters in the town of Victory will be asked to allow the Victory Town School District to sell or give away the last remaining one-room schoolhouse, which was abandoned years ago. The Caledonian Record reports that to become part of the new Northeast Kingdom Choice School District, the 10 non-operating school districts joining the new district cannot own property. Essex Caledonia Supervisory Union Superintendent Michael Clark says that both Victory and neighboring Granby must sell or donate their school houses. Clark says the School Board is hopeful that it can identify a nonprofit that can make good use of the property.
