Celebrate spring at the auction.
Dinner at Ariana's and Elixir, framing services at Duke's, a printmaking workshop at Two Rivers Printmaking Studio, an hour or so for your weary self at Lynn Walker Massage are only some of the gift certificates at the annual AVA Gallery Silent Auction. And then, of course, there is the abundant art--paintings, sculpture, watercolors, jewelry, and ceramics, donated by 80 artists and craftspeople.
There is more than one way to bid, but the most fun may be had at the Silent Auction Party on April 7. Servers pass through the crowd offering elegant hors d'oeuvres, and guests sip an adult beverage. You will see friends and acquaintances who have been hiding all winter and who have shaved and/or put on lipstick for the occasion. People stroll and mingle and scribble their bids. Many years ago at this event, I bid on some spectacular earrings and obsessively lurked next to them toward the end of the bidding, ready to counter any rivals. (The strategy worked. I won. May have been my only competitive sport.)
A previous year’s offering of Silent Auction gift certificates—how to choose?
If crowded galleries are not your preferred environment , you can be an early bidder. From March 31 to April 7, you may preview (with no admission charge) all of the auction items at AVA and place a bid. If you find something you absolutely must have, it can be yours by offering the "buy it now" price.
For the party on April 7 (5:00 to 8:00 p.m), admission is $35 for AVA members, $45 for non-members, and $50 at the door if tickets are still available. Admission includes one free drink. Cash bar by Salt Hill Pub. Tickets may be purchased by calling AVA at 603.448.3117. For more information, or to purchase tickets online, go to the AVA Gallery website at http://avagallery.org. Proceeds support AVA and its many community programs.
