Beautiful handmade books are on display at Dartmouth’s Baker Library. Dartmouth undergraduates created children’s books that showcase languages that are on the verge of extinction. The books are also available in digital format, but these pillowy cloth books are a delight to hold in your hands.
According to sources cited in the exhibition, languages around the world are rapidly disappearing. In the United States, 300 indigenous languages existed, most of which are no longer spoken. Only 20 of those languages are still being taught to children.
