As of February 1, Gardeners Supply, an employee-owned store and catalog company from Burlington, Vermont, is open on Mechanic St in Lebanon. They recently purchased Longacre’s Nursery, a family-owned garden center. Melissa Longacre has been hired as manager of the new store.
I visited on opening day and was pleased by what I saw: no more chemical pesticides, for starters. Plenty of seed variety. A new kitchen gadget section including fine kitchen utensils and things like crocks for making sauerkraut. A good selection of fine hand tools. Seed-starting supplies. Bird feeders. And much more.
I joined the Gardeners Club and got a 25% discount on a beautiful little orchid. That saving is good all February. Joining is free, and will allow me to get periodic e-mail updates. It will also extend the warranty on plants.
Melissa Longacre told me that the new business will sell perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs, as Longacre’s Nursery did. So I can’t wait for spring to see what they will have.
