What began as a rescue effort turned into an arrest
WESTMINSTER, VT - A report that a man was unresponsive inside a vehicle parked in Interstate 91's northbound rest area brought an immediate response from emergency services, including several Vermont State Police troopers who ended up arresting the driver after they located 996 bags of heroin inside his vehicle.
Patrick Parris, 31, of Derby, Vermont was charged with driving under the influence, heroin possession and heroin trafficking after he came to shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday as police and EMTs began arriving in the rest area to see if he was alright.
Trooper Cohen Forbes said that a Windham Court clerk set release conditions for Parris following his arrest and he was eventually released with a citation ordering him to appear at the courthouse in Brattleboro on March 13th to formally answer the criminal charges.
