UPDATE: Another accident in Hartland involving seven vehicles
NORTH HARTLAND - A truck is on its side in the northbound travel lane of Interstate 91 near Mile Marker 65 and further south in Springfield the southbound lanes of I-91 have been shut down entirely near Exit 7 due to a collision between a state snowplow truck and a large log truck.
Initial reports of a serious rollover accident near the base of Miller Hill in North Hartland began coming in around 6:20 p.m. and within ten minutes several nurses had stopped to assist the two occupants of the vehicle, which was on its side in the travel lane.
Hartford sent two ambulances to the scene and both the Hartland and Ascutney volunteer fire departments sent fire trucks to the scene to assist with one of the occupants who was reportedly seriously injured and still trapped within the vehicle.
Hartland Fire reported 30 minutes later that the trapped patient had been extricated and loaded into an ambulance for transport to the hospital and that the situation was under control. The passing lane on the northbound side remains open to traffic.
In Springfield, Vermont State Police reported that the collision involving the plow and the log truck had forced the closure of all southbound lanes and that side of the highway is going to remained closed until further notice while the mess is untangled. There was no immediate word as to whether anyone was injured in the Springfield mishap.
UPDATE: At 7:30 p.m. emergency services began receiving additional reports of another accident - this time involving two tractor-trailer trucks and five cars - in the northbound lane of I-91 just before mile marker 65. Hartland firefighters and Vermont State Police troopers responded and also requested another ambulance from Hartford Fire for one person experiencing back pain at the scene. The initial reports suggested that a tractor trailer truck had begun sliding on slippery pavement and had sideswiped another tractor trailer carrying U.S. Mail along with the five cars.
