Laughter was the order of the day in Norwich. For the fourth consecutive year, as part of the 19 Days of Norwich and Beyond, local beauticians squared off to see who could raise more funds for the Haven. The theme was a Charlie Brown Christmas, and -- good grief! -- people were into it.
With clients in their chairs, the contestants laughed and joked and posed for photos. The work didn't seem to suffer, and clients were all in on their teams. People filled jars with checks, cash, and coins, all of destined for neighbors in need.
One had to marvel at the creativity behind the event, and applaud the inventiveness that got so many willing participants to open their hearts to help out during a special time of year. Perhaps the refreshments played a role!
Ten minutes later, driving down Main Street, one couldn't help but note a very cheerful Snoopy pushing a client in a wheelchair up a snowy, salty ramp to her haircut. It was the type of little assistance that makes the wheels of the Upper Valley community turn a bit more smoothly. It was also a reminder that that very kindness is on display not just during the 19 Days, but every day, in every season, all year round.
Tomorrow, it's the final weekend of the 19 Days...
