Tomorrow is December 1st, the official beginning of the"19 Days of Norwich, Hanover, White River Junction, Lyme & Beyond." It is the fifth year of this annual charitable campaign benefiting the Upper Valley Haven. At the most basic level, this is a story of local businesses who pledge to donate 1% of their profits from sales over the first 19 days of December to the Haven.
But that is the simplest part of a much larger story. See, what these 19 days are really about is the extraordinary generosity, kindness, and humanity of the people of the Upper Valley community. The 19 Days are about the different ways we take care of each other. The 19 Days are about how we all see and understand that thousands of small gestures end up having a tremendous impact on individuals and families across our region. The 19 Days are about how pennies and nickels and jars of jam end up changing the lives of our neighbors. The 19 Days, most of all, are about how local people work together to help other local people "find hope and discover possibility," as the Haven says.
