Norwich Could Recycle Plastic Too: Fifth Grade Proposals

In addition to an ordinance banning carry out plastic bags, the fifth grade at Marion Cross School presented three suggestions to the Town for recycling plastics.  The report is in the February 27 Selectboard packet. I don't know if these are under active consideration by Norwich officials

1.  The ARCC (Additional Recyclables Collection Center) in Barre accepts plastics for recycling that the Norwich transfer station does not. The fifth grade proposed that Norwich collect these materials at the dump and transport them to ARCC.

2.  ARCC does not accept plastic bags, wraps and film but supermarkets participating in the W.R.A.P. program do.  The fifth grade propose that Norwich follow the example of Thetford and collect eligible items at the Norwich transfer station and make arrangements with a supermarket to take them.

3.  The students also proposed the Town set up "a few additional collection bins around town for these plastic items. Suggestions include Dan & Whit's, the Norwich Square, the Norwich Public Library, MCS, King Arthur Flour, Huntley Meadow, and Norwich Meadows."
