A quaint Bed and Breakfast it is

With a history as well.

I recently sat down with Ciaran Geraghty to discuss the Partridge House Bed and Breakfast located on 383 Main Street. I asked him to tell me a little about it.

The Partridge House was built for Captain Alden Partridge in 1820 and he began to occupy the home in 1825.  It was designed by Joseph Emerson, a prolific architect of that era in this area. Captain Alden Partridge founded Norwich University, now in Northfield, VT but originally on the site that is now home to Marion Cross elementary school.

We purchased the property in 2012 and began an extensive renovation in 2013 by GR Porter & Sons which was finished in 2015. We opened in May of 2015. We replaced the existing screened in porch with a beautiful 4 season sun porch and installed bathrooms in the 3 existing bedrooms which are all for rent year round. Full breakfast is included.
I went to Johnson & Wales University where I trained in culinary arts and hotel management. My previous employers include Chatham Bars Inn, The Ritz Carlton and Murphy's On The Green.
Rachael is a pharmacist and hails from Charleston, South Carolina and also does our ordering and bookkeeping. Cora, our daughter, just turned 1 and we are excited to raise a family in Norwich, Vermont!

They were taking photos around town. I asked if they were visiting and they said yes and that they were staying at the Partridge House B & B.  I explained that I was going to be doing a story on it this week and asked if they wanted to be in it and if so to send me a photo and some info.  Here is there reply:

Hello Demo,

This is Matthew. I met you on the streets of Norwich as I was taking photos of the town. It’s not everyday you get to meet the Citizen of the Year!

I’ve attached my photo of the Partridge house as well as a selfie of my wife and I in front of the building. Feel free to use them for your article and please share a link once you post it!

Our names are Matthew and Sara Dickey. I’m an artist and digital marketer with a slight obsession with architecture and history.

Here’s my own website: www.matthewadickey.com

Great meeting you and look forward to reading your story on the Inn.

Cheers,

Matthew
