Tired of snow and cold? Get inside a building full of blooming bulbs and shrubs! Go to the Vermont Flower Show either Saturday or Sunday, March 2 or 3. I went today, and enjoyed it. It’s at the Champlain Expo Center in Essex Junction, VT. From White River, just go up I-89 to Exit 15, turn right and go 3 miles to the Expo Center. That’s about 90 miles.
Tulip display at the Vermont Flower Show
After entering the building, there is a hall full of flowers, shrubs and trees. This display is a collaborative effort by members of the Vermont Landscapers Association. It includes a section where you get to smell and touch plants.
Vendors are plentiful in the main hall.
I attended a nice lecture and slide show by Judith Irven today, and there are others throughout the weekend. I also enjoyed the magician that was entertaining kids of all ages. He had me fooled!
Magician on Friday at the Flower Show
There will be live music and marionettes on Saturday and Sunday. The train display is there as always, and flower arrangements and potted plants competing for ribbons.
The main hall is redolent in the sights and smells of flowers for sale. There were plenty of vendors selling everything from French tablecloths to garden gloves and huge decorative pots for your garden. This year there were also many vendors offering samples of Vermont-made wine, mead and spirits. There was plenty of homemade ice cream for sale, and food vendors catering to every taste and requirement.
So get out and go to the Vermont Flower Show. Tickets are $20, but discounted to $15 for seniors and $10 for students 13 to 17 if you buy them in advance. Kids 5 to 12 are just $5. It’s nothing compared to Boston or Philly, but it’s nearby, less expensive, and fun!
