Black ice on Interstate 89 in Sharon sends driver to the hospital

SHARON - State troopers patrolling Interstate 89 on Thursday morning came across a single-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes near Mile Marker 11 where the driver of a 2008 Chevy Silverado lost control on black ice and slid into the guardrails at approximately 50 miles per hour.

David Clough, 73, of Concord, New Hampshire was not wearing his seatbelt and sustained a hip injury that required him to be taken by a Hartford Fire Department ambulance to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment, Trooper Joseph Pregent reported.

Police said the initial impact with guardrails on the left side of the highway damaged the right rear quarter panel and rear bumper and sent the pickup spinning back across both lanes of travel to the right side of the pavement where the truck collided head-on with the guardrails there, damaging the front of the vehicle and setting off the driver's airbag.
