Investigation into Fatal Logging Skidder Accident Announced

SPRINGFIELD, VT—The Springfield, VT, Police Dept. has announced an investigation regarding a fatal skidder accident.  On the evening of February 22, the Springfield Fire Department, the Chester Fire Department and the Springfield Police Department responded to Brook Road, Springfield, VT, for the report of an overturned logging skidder in the woods. The skidder had been found by some snowmobilers who were passing by.  According to the statement released by the police department, the snowmobilers checked on the skidder and found the sole occupant, identified by law enforcement as Guy Arthur Lariviere Sr., 80, deceased.

According to the report, “Upon initial investigation Lariviere seemed to have been thrown from the skidder, and when it overturned, it pinned Lariviere under the roll cage, in a stream.” The police said that an investigation is ongoing as to the cause of death, and to determine if there was a mechanical issue with the skidder or if there were other contributing factors which caused the skidder to overturn. The Springfield Police Department is awaiting an autopsy report, to help with the investigation, said officials.
