SPRINGFIELD - A correctional officer has been arrested on suspicion of sexually exploiting an inmate following a five-week-long investigation that began with a tip phoned in on a hotline maintained by the Department of Corrections.
The tip was received on December 17th from an inmate housed at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield who said that he had been sexually assaulted by a correctional officer at the facility.
On Thursday, detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested CO Cameron Morin, 21, of Newfane before eventually releasing him with a citation to answer criminal charges of lewd & lascivious conduct and sexual exploitation of an inmate along with a civil ticket alleging that he also brought tobacco contraband into the correctional facility.
Morin is due to answer the charges on March 12th at the Windsor County Courthouse in downtown White River Junction.
