The Hop’s resident symphony orchestra and pianist-in-residence play Beethoven’s “Emperor” piano concerto, one of his most popular and important works. They round out the program with two other works by this enormously influential composer: his Fifth Symphony, which epitomizes his musical style, and his Coriolan Overture. The latter was written for a play about Coriolanus, the Roman general who inspired the eponymous Shakespeare’s play brought to the Hop this fall by the Stratford Festival.
