New hours: Thursdays, 4-7 PM, and first Fridays, of each month, 6-8 PM.
The Newberry Market in White River Jct is open Thursdays from 4-7 PM. It is located in the Gates-Briggs Building, on Main St., which is the L-shaped building that runs from Revolution over to the Hotel Coolidge building.
Many people will remember the old J.J. Newberry store that was in the Gates-Briggs building from the late 1930's until about 1996. Newberry's was a retail franchise of a nationwide chain of department stores that went out of business, after lasting for many decades

Fred Briggs bought he Gates building in 1972, and it was later renamed the Gates-Briggs building. Fred had been leasing the space for his business, Briggs' Limited Shop, since the early 1950's.
Newberry Market in White River Junction today
Today, part of what was the J.J. Newberry store is used for the "Newberry Market". It's a combination of vendors with a variety of offerings. The market is currently open on Thursdays, from 4-7 PM (new hours), and it is also open on the First Friday every month, from 6-8 PM. First Fridays in WRJ can be busy and fun. There is a lot of free live music all around town on First Friday evenings, in different locations within the Tip Top Building, and other spots such as Revolution, The Engine Room, Newberry Market, and other locations in the village.
I stopped by Newberry Market last Thursday and took a few photos of the vendors that were there on that day.

Sandi Anderson provided excellent acoustic music, and Dean Whitlock added some nice harmony.
The Newberry Market often has live music going on. Sandi Anderson was providing some great acoustic guitar and vocals when I stopped by.
This week, Jan. 24, and First Friday, February 1st, music will be provided by me, Bob Totz, with possibly a special guest.
All in all, it's a nice relaxed atmosphere, in the heart of White River Junction. Newberry Market is a great place to shop for a bite to eat, or a dessert or coffee, a book, or some jewelry, stained glass, hand knitted garments, or other great crafts. The newberry Market is tucked in nicely between the Tuckerbox Cafe and Piecemeal Pies and it opens up as you move toward the rear. You never really know who might pop up at this market. I think old John Josiah Newberry would approve!
