5 Ways to Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the Upper Valley This Week

Here are a few ways to celebrate and honor Martin Luther King Jr. here in the Upper Valley. There will be music, celebrations, potlucks and more.

Monday, January 21st

  • Martin Luther King Day Celebration and Potluck (Claremont, NH) - The Trinity Episcopal Church will host a potluck lunch and program from 11:30am - 2:00pm. This is a free event. 
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration (Hanover, NH) - Visit the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth from 7pm - 9pm for this free event hosted by the award-winning activist Franchesca Ramsey.
  • White River Gallery Winter Show (South Royalton, VT) - This art show celebrates the truth tellers in America, particularly the greatest truth-teller, Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will be from 4pm - 6pm at the White River Gallery @ BALE.
  • "Making A King" (Thetford, VT) - Thetford Academy will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. with a Bicentennial Speaker Series presentation by Professor Derrick E. White entitled "Making a King: The Contested Legacies of a Civil Rights Icon." This special event, free and open to the public, will take place at the Martha Jane Rich Theater at 7 p.m.

Sunday, January 27th

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Faith Celebration (Hanover, NH) -  The keynote speaker for this celebration will be Dr. Kevin Young. The event will feature diverse student voices and the Dartmouth College Gospel Choir directed by Walt J. Cunningham at Rollins Chapel at 3PM.
