Inspired by the foot-stomping, energetic dance music of Cape Breton, “Footworks” is a lively Vermont-based instrumental band formed by a mix of young blood and seasoned contra dance players.  Members of Footworks have played with Northern Spy, Yann Falquet, and at such venues as Cafe Lena, Tracy Hall contra dances, and the Boston Celtic Music Festival.  With three fiddles, whistle, cittern, and guitar, Footworks’ driving jigs and reels are bound to get your feet tapping to the beat.

Richard Hopkins has been calling dances in central and north Florida since 1991, and is looking forward to doing the same in and around Vermont. A retired state government employee and academic, he recently moved to New England to be near grandchildren. He enjoys choosing, teaching and calling a diverse program of dances -- old and new, simple and complex, smooth and lively, in a variety of formations. He really enjoys NOT calling when he can, so the dancers and band can interact directly without the distraction of a caller. He's really excited about calling with Cape Breton music, a novelty for a Floridian!
