VTSP Assisting Local PD with Case
The Vermont State Police is continuing to investigate a shooting and stabbing that occurred Sunday afternoon, Jan. 6, at the Holiday Inn hotel in Springfield, VT. Local police in Springfield requested assistance from the Vermont State Police, which has assigned detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to take the lead in the case.
Springfield police received a report at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday that an injured man was found lying in the open doorway of a guest room at the hotel. Investigation by local and state police indicates that the male victim, age 36, had been stabbed in the neck and shot in one of his legs. The man was taken to Springfield Hospital and then airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with life-threatening injuries. The man’s identity is being withheld while the investigation is continuing. For a time, Springfield Hospital was placed under lockdown in connection with this incident, as was the Holiday Inn.
Vermont State Police investigators are pursuing multiple leads. The investigation indicates that this was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the general public. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Vermont State Police in Westminster at 802-722-4600.
