Start the New Year Slow

Now that the calendar has turned to 2019, you might be saying to yourself, "I'm doing things different this year!" or "New year, new me!" or something completely different. Whatever you're saying to yourself today, make sure you take time to reflect back on 2018, the good and not so good, the happy and the sad, the gains and losses. We have the whole year ahead of us to start new habits and routines, try new things, set new goals and intentions, and make new memories. Why not start of 2019 a little slower?

One of my favorite Gretchen Rubin quotes is, "The days are long, but the years are short." Often as we go through each day or week, the days can feel so long, but then when we look back the year has flown by. Whether those long days hold fond memories or ones you hope to soon forget, they have all added to your year in some way and deserve some time for reflection. So instead of rushing into that today, take some time to:

  • reflect back on the year or years that have passed
  • let go of what you need to so that you have room for the new year ahead 
  • keep the good habits, routines, memories

Here's to starting off 2019 a little slower with more reflection and awareness.
