White River Junction man reaches plea deal in extensive child sexual abuse case
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION - A plea deal will spare a White River Junction man what could have been a mandatory 25-year-to-life sentence for a case of prolonged child sexual abuse.
Richard Dinsmore, 49, who has been held without bail since his arrest in 2016, pled guilty on Tuesday to six felony charges ranging from aggravated sexual assault on a minor to possession of child pornography.
Dinsmore’s case prompted an extended investigation into whether any children at a local daycare center that he’d had access to had been abused but when that inquiry did not turn up any new victims the case focused back down on two young children who said Dinsmore had abused them beginning as early as the second grade in one case.
Although Dinsmore was not sentenced this week, the terms of the plea agreement are uncontested meaning that when he is formally sentenced some time next year he is expected to receive a term of 10-years-to-life and to have to register as a sex offender going forward.
