Enrollment Projected To Decline At Marion Cross School
Student enrollment in grades K-6 at Marion Cross School is projected to decline next school year from 278 children to 270. See chart below. This would be the fourth straight year of declining numbers.
As discussed at the November Norwich School Board meeting, 270 students will be used in formulating the budget for MCS. The lower enrollment may mean the elimination of a teaching position, but even with that, no class section will have more than 20 students.
It is too early to tell how the enrollment at Marion Cross will impact the homestead property tax rate. Spending per pupil in grades K-12 drives the State formula.
