Steeling Nature
Instructor: Sabrina Fadial        

Using nature as our inspiration, students will create playful and engaging sculptures from found and stock materials. Starting with the basics, this workshop will cover a range of metal fabrication and forming techniques, as well tips and tricks for working wisely with a variety of tools. Techniques will include fabrication, welding, plasma cutting, basic forging, and cold connections.

Women, Wild About Welding
Instructor: Jennie Anderson  

Join AVA's growing group of women who are thrilled to be learning to weld. Students will learn the basics of measuring, cutting, and joining metal with an emphasis on hands-on practice with MIG welder, plasma cutter and oxy-acetylene torch. Experienced welders will continue to expand their comfort level and develop techniques with the goal of completing a personal project. The skills you gain will leave you fired up to work independently in AVA’s Sculptural Studies Building during open studio hours.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Instructor: Jimmy Martel

TEENAGERS: Bend steel with your bare (gloved) hands! Control the heat of lightning in this intensive weekend workshop. Cut, measure, bend and join metal with MIG, “stick”, oxy-acetylene torch and plasma cutter all with safety and fun the priorities. The alchemy of possibilities is endless once you learn the tricks of the trade.

It's Coming Together       
Instructor: Chris McGrody 

We'll provide you with all you need to square up rough boards, lay out and cut a variety of wood joints including lap joints, bridle joints, mortises, tenons, and dovetails. Students will put it all together using the joinery skills of a professional. Return home with a completed project that demonstrates the skills you've learned.

Anyone Can Throw
Instructor: Evan Williams

Anyone can learn to throw a pot. It does take lots of practice and persistence, but the results are satisfying. Students will learn centering, basic throwing techniques, trimming, handle application and a variety of decoration techniques.

Beyond Centering
Instructor: Evan Williams   

If you are familiar with using the potter’s and want to hone your skills we will practice making functional objects such as mugs, bowls, plates and even a teapot. Further development of a personal style will be encouraged through decorative techniques.
