Accident Involving Newport School District Bus Reported
No Students On Board at the Time
On October 15, at approximately 6:30 a.m., there was a motor vehicle accident between a car and a Newport, NH, School District school bus. The accident occurred in front of LaValley’s Building Supply on Sunapee Street in Newport, reported Superintendent Cindy Gallagher in a statement late Monday.
According to Gallagher, "There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident; the operator of the car was transported to DHMC for injuries sustained."
The Newport Police Department in conjunction with the New Hampshire State Police are currently investigating the accident and will be releasing a report pending notification of the injured driver’s family, said Gallagher.
"Newport School District runs seven routes, including four Newport community routes, a Goshen route and a special education/pre-school route," said Gallagher. "There were no additional drivers available this morning to run the assigned route. The District has reallocated current drivers and will provide transportation tomorrow."
