Fall In Love with Woodstock, VT

Evidence of fall begins in late August around here. You know, the tree you see and say, "OMG! That tree is already starting to change color!", and your friend says, "It is still summer! I can't see anything!". Whether you choose to embrace the upcoming seasonal change or avoid it for as long as flip-flop weather is possible; Fall in Vermont is quite spectacular. This past weekend the Autumn Equinox arrived, and with it came many tour buses full of people eager to see the leaves turn color.

September is still quite warm and the leaves have only just begun to fade. September is great for apples. Moore's Orchard in North Pomfret, Vermont, also on Facebook, grows more than just apples, but they have a small orchard within biking distance to downtown Woodstock, Vermont. If you do bike there, prepare for the climb up Pomfret Hill on the way there and the fun downhill ride back to town. The orchard labels the various types of apples with a color-coded ribbon on each tree. They also highly recommend tasting the apples before you purchase them! Once you have picked your share, head back to the entrance to weigh and pay.

September although still quite warm, is far cooler and less humid than summer. This is a great time of year to get outside and hike. Mount Tom and Mount Peg are both great for hiking and both accessible from downtown Woodstock. Mt. Tom has a great view of downtown and historic Woodstock, while Mt. Peg has a quaint view of Killington Summit, Billings Farm, and the lush green rolling hills.
