PHOTOS: Fatal crash in Hartland shuts down Interstate 91 late this morning
HARTLAND - One man is dead and another man has been seriously injured as the result of a single-vehicle rollover accident near the base of Miller Hill on Interstate 91 this morning near the Hartland/Hartford town line.
The crash, which occurred around 10:45 a.m., began in the southbound lane as the car was headed downhill into the final curve above the dual highway bridges that span over the Ottauquechee River just below the Hartland Dam in the village of North Hartland.
An abrupt and short set of skid marks appeared to indicate that the car turned violently to the left and almost immediately entered the interstate median, which dips down sharply at that point from the roadway, before flipping over and ejecting both occupants of the car out onto the pavement of the northbound lane.
The DHART helicopter was called in to airlift the surviving patient, who is believed to have been the driver of the 2010 Kia Forte, to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center while the body of the passenger of the vehicle remained on the highway covered by a red tarp.
Numerous Vermont State Police troopers were at the scene over the noon hour investigating and both sides of the interstate were reopened to traffic within the hour.
On Friday afternoon state police released the names of the men involved in the crash.
Jarell Washington, 29, of Burlington was the person who was killed and the other occupant was Saul Brown, 36, also of Burlington.
State police noted that their investigators are still working on determining exactly who was driving at the time.
