Worth Knowing: Dollar General opening in Wentworth
A new Dollar General is poised to open in Wentworth. It's located where Routes 25 and 118 intersect Route 25A.
Dollar General Corporation is an American chain of variety stores headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. In 1939, James Luther Turner and Cal Turner opened their first store named J.L. Turner & Son in Scottsville, Kentucky. When the company went public in 1968, its name was changed to Dollar General. Dollar General operates more than 15,000 stores in the U.S.
There are Dollar General stores in the following Upper Valley towns: Canaan, Charlestown, Fairlee, Haverhill, Newport, Springfield (VT), N. Windsor.
Not much local here
Dollar General is often confused with Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, two companies that offer the same sort of discounted goods and that also have locations sprinkled throughout the area. This types of stores apparently does very well in our semi-rural area - the manager an Upper Valley Dollar Tree store told me that her store generates $2.3 million in annual revenue. Since every item in a Dollar Tree store costs $1, that means the store sells an astonishing average of 6,301 items per day assuming it's open 365 days a year.
Toothpaste and tooth brushes at $1 apiece
