The Valley News reported today that Norwich Town Manager Herb Durfee III has pleaded no contest to a negligent operation of a vehicle with alcohol in his system. The plea arose from a crash last February on Interstate 89 involving Durfee's car and a snowplow. He was originally charged with DUI. As part of the plea deal, Durfee paid a $492 fine and must obtain an alcohol interlock device for his car and complete a safe driving course. He also received a 30- to 60-day suspended jail sentence.
