Worth Knowing: Floor hockey league looking for a few women players . . .
A couple of years ago a friend told me that there was a really fun co-ed floor hockey league that plays at CCBA in Lebanon and that they needed women. I love just about every sport so I thought I'd give it a try. I mustered my courage and joined a team. It was a blast, and I'd still be doing it if there weren't so many other things to try.
Here's the skinny. The Upper Valley Floor Hockey league consists of 8 teams that play each other over an 8-week period on Friday nights. The winningest teams advance to playoffs. It's a co-ed league and every team is required to have a certain number of women on the floor at all times during games - teams normally have 2 men and 2 women out on the court at all times. Regular game play consists of 4-on-4 out on the floor, plus a goalie for each team. You don't need any equipment other than a hockey stick, protective eye wear and shin guards, all of which are mandatory. Games consist of two, 25-minute running time halves, separated by a brief halftime. The atmosphere is competitive but light hearted, and every game if refereed. Every player breaks a sweat because there's a lot of running. It is wicked fun.
I just heard that the league is looking for a few women players before the next session begins on Friday, September 7. It's totally worth trying . . . just sayin'.
