For me, this week's Friday photograph on the Norwich Historical Society Facebook page raised a question I'd like answered. It is undated, and depicts cadets lined up in front of the North Barracks at Norwich University.
Originally founded in Norwich in 1819, the military college moved to its present home in Northfield, Vt., after a fire in 1866. Everything I read about the fire says it destroyed the South Barracks, which were located on or near what's now the Norwich Green. There's a marker made from South Barracks bricks at the entrance road, Girard Way, leading into the Marion Cross School.
But where were the North Barracks, and what became of them?
