Wednesday wasn't only the first day of school for Marion Cross students and teachers, but for the staff too. So I stopped in the next morning to ask Principal Bill Hammond how his first day went. After all, he's retiring at the end of the school year.
I kept it short because it was only his second day of the year, and he was busy.
How was your first day?
It was fabulous. I’ve got to say that working with students and seeing them back here is the reason I do this job in the first place. They were excited to be here, and I was excited to be here with them.
It’s your last first day. How did that make a difference?
You know, I honestly don’t look at life that way. I don’t look forward to weekends, although I enjoy weekends when they happen. I think each day has value, and so I’m not going to spend this year looking at 'This is going to be the last time I do this.' I’ll be around. I’m still going to be here I hope for students who are learning in this community.
