It's Community Supper Time!

Community dinners are always kind of in the background -- a handwritten poster at a busy intersection, a quick post on one of the listservs. Now that the seasons are changing and the summer suppers are making way for the fall set, it seems a good time to round up what's coming down the pike. 

If you know of one that's not on this list, please let us know in the comment section below!

Next Saturday, Sept. 8, you're going to have to choose. There's:

-- The last take-out Sizzlin' Chicken of 2018, from 11:30 - 2:00 at Grace United Methodist Church, on North Main Street in Bradford, VT. $12 for 1/2 grilled chicken, potato salad, baked beans and cookies. Okay, this one's lunch, not dinner, but that just means you can also make it to:

-- The season's first Family-Style Turkey Supper at the United Methodist Church in White River Junction. This will run from 4:30 to 6:30 pm -- turkey with all the fixings and homemade pies. $10 for adults, $6.00 for 12 and under, preschoolers are free. Questions and pre-orders after 1 pm Saturday, 802.295.7091. The church is at 106 Gates Street.

-- Or the 7th annual "Largely Local" Dinner, which is a fundraiser for the East Barnard Community Hall. There'll be a roast turkey dinner served from 5:00-7:00 pm at the community hall, which includes mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, maple-roasted carrots, salad, apple crisp and ice cream. Cost will be $12 for adults, $6 for under 12, and $3 for pre-schoolers. There'll also be a craft bazaar and live music. For information, call Marilyn Syme at 802.763.7777.

Farther out on the calendar, you'll find:

-- A potluck featuring Italian cuisine on Friday, September 21, at 6:30 pm, hosted by the Lebanon Gourmet Cooking Club. This will be in the Community Room at the Kilton Library on Main Street in West Lebanon. Open to all.  Bring an appetizer, side dish, entree, dessert or beverage to share with everyone.  Contact Lisa at 603-359-7116 or email lisa.green4444@gmail.com with any questions.

-- A roast pork and harvest vegetable dinner hosted by the Enfield-Mascoma Lionesses on Saturday, September 29 at 5 pm in the Enfield Community Building at Huse Park. You'll find roast pork, potatoes, carrots, turnips, onions, squash, and apple crisp. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 65+, children under 12 are $5. And you can get take-out after 5:30 pm.

-- The 44th annual Prosper Valley School harvest supper will be Saturday, October 6, with seatings at 5 pm, 6:15 pm, and 7:30 pm. This one's $14 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. It's served family style in the Pomfret Town Hall and includes "all the fixings of a traditional turkey dinner with turkey, dressing, gravy, squash, potatoes, coleslaw, homemade breads and rolls, and numerous delectable homemade pies." It's the school's biggest fundraiser, and a long-held town tradition. For reservations, you can go online to http://www.pomfretharvestsupper.com/reservations/ or call 802-457-4881.

-- Then, of course, there's Chef Steve's Famous Wild Game Supper at the West Fairlee Church on October 13. You can read more about that here.
