Jodi Picoult's latest -- about a gunman at a women's health clinic -- isn't out yet, but it already has 423 ratings on Goodreads, based on a sample chapter. So this is going to be big. If you want to get in on the excitement and nab an early copy, you can do it in Norwich.

The Norwich Bookstore is partnering with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England in hosting a book launch event at the Norwich Congregational Church on Sept. 28. It's a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood; if you buy a ticket, you'll get a signed book -- four days before it's widely available. The event will feature a discussion between Picoult and Meagan Gallagher, Planned Parenthood's president and CEO.

Tickets are either $35 or $50 -- a sliding scale, based on income, like Planned Parenthood services -- and if you're inclined, you can make a bigger contribution as a sponsor and, in return, get additional books and benefits including admission to a private reception with Picoult. Here's the link to event details.

After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter and begins making a plan to communicate with the gunman. As his phone vibrates with incoming text messages he glances at it and, to his horror, finds out that his fifteen-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic ...
