The Upper Valley Music Center is hosting an open house on Thursday, September 6, 3-6 pm, to kick off our fall semester. Meet Upper Valley Music Center faculty, try out instruments, and take free demo classes. Free and open to all!
Schedule: Meet & Greet with UVMC teachers and instrument demos: 3-6 pm. Try instruments & meet UVMC faculty, including: Sarah Brown (piano), Susan Downing (piano), Ben Kulp (cello), Mark Nelson (Chamber Orchestra), Patricia Norton (choral singing), Chris Rua (recorder), Nic Zannoni (violin/chamber music/youth orchestra), Katie Kitchel (Music Together) and more TBA.
Music Together Demo Class (Ages 0-5 yrs with caregiver): 4:30-5:15 pm. Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners and the grown-ups who love them. Music Together classes involve both children and parents or other caregivers in informal singing, chanting, moving, listening and instrument playing activities that are developmentally appropriate for very young children.
Vocal Exploration Demo Classes (Adults): 3:30-4:00 & 5:30-6 pm. Open to everyone who is curious about singing. Do you want to sing? Not sure if you can? Were you ever told to stand in the back and “just mouth the words”? Know how to sing but need a refresher? Singing from a variety of traditions, students learn to match pitch, follow written music, and use healthy vocal technique. A bit of music history and theory gets thrown in as a bonus.
Orchestra Explorers Demo Class (Ages 6+): 3:30-4 pm. Orchestra Explorers is for string students who are just starting to read music, designed as a supplement to their lesson note reading in a group setting. Students will develop fundamental orchestral skills such as following a conductor, reading music in a group, creating a group sound, and rehearsal vocabulary. (Suzuki late Book 1 or equivalent)
Meet & Greet with Nic Zannoni: 4-4:30 pm
Sinfonia Demo Class (Ages 6+): 4:30-5 pm Join fellow string players for a supportive and exciting beginning string orchestra experience. Students will learn how to play in a section, holding their own on a part that is rhythmically & melodically different than other parts of the ensemble. (Suzuki Book 2-3 or equivalent)
