Pergola progress at the Norwich library
This just in at the Norwich Public Library: a pergola. It's the centerpiece of an effort to bring new vitality to an outdoor space grown tired.
When I stopped by yesterday, Nicholas Cranmer and Max Pfeiffer of Henderson's Tree Service were packing up after a day of landscaping. Their work involves fresh gravel and plantings -- and there's sod and bark mulch to come.
There's a lot to the courtyard that doesn't meet the eye as well, starting with sonotubes that serve as footings and underground irrigation.
Soaked in sweat, Nicholas and Max declined the opportunity to be photographed. That's okay. I'm patient.
The pergola itself is the work of Kearney & Son Carpentry.
