This Week at the Upper Valley's Farmers' Markets
Here we are. It's August. It's that golden time when vegetables and fruit look stunning, when what just got harvested pretty much demands that you change your dinner plans, when it feels like every week, something new is on its way to your table. And it's made all the more sweet -- oh, okay, bittersweet -- because you know that here in the Upper Valley, it's not going to last.
If you like to frequent farmers' markets and farmstands, this is going to be a banner week. The recent combination of lots of sun and then rain and then sun -- and, now, rain -- has the fields bursting. Tomatoes are glorious. Sweet corn is just starting to come in. Cantaloupes and other melons, which to those of us who love them always seem like they're dawdling, are going to start piling up. Peppers, eggplant, summer squash, new potatoes, blueberries... As Danielle Allen of Root 5 Farm says, "You can expect to see a full rainbow!"
Here's a list of farmers' markets around the Upper Valley, with days and hours. What are you waiting for?
