As always in high summer, there's a ton happening in White River Junction for First Friday.
But here's something new: Open Door, Revolution, Piecemeal Pies, and JUEL are throwing a Parking Lot Party in those fiercely guarded parking spaces behind Open Door and Revolution. There'll be music, performance art, non-mobile art, and plenty of sales racks. But that's not what we're here to talk about. Because let's face it: There's going to be food!
And as it happens, it's worth knowing about. When he needs to revitalize himself, Justin Barrett, who owns and runs Piecemeal Pies, heads to a little village on the Pacific coast of Baja California. "Everyone there makes tortillas from an early age -- we love making them with organic masa," he says. "And the locals have taught me some great flavors." So Piecemeal will be braising duck (from Duck Duck Rabbit Farm) in chipotle, orange and coriander. They'll be slinging Shire Beef's (Vershire) grass-fed beef tongue braised in roasted salsa. They'll make Rajas y Queso -- roasted peppers with cheese. And, of course, serve up beer, cider, wine, and agua fresca.
Meanwhile, JUEL Juice + Smoothies will be there, too, though their trailer will be elsewhere. So they'll be keeping it simple: juice and spritzers. But you need to forgive them: They're focused on getting their new almost-ready home on North Main Street even readier.
So Friday, 5-8. Go groove. Go finger clothing etc. Go gawk at art... or stand there appraisingly, finger to chin. But above all: Go eat!
