I did a quick post the other day remarking on the number of players in the Ultimate Frisbee League at Kilowatt Park -- 84! -- and it wasn't long before I heard from Becca Bates with more info on the league ... which is a thing. It's happening, and you could join in.
Here's what Becca had to say:
The summer league is over 10 years running, and has grown from 4 teams to 6 teams. We've had approximately 85 people participate for the last 5 years. It's a co-ed league that welcomes players of all experience levels and abilities. Participant ages range from 15 to 60, which is pretty awesome! People sign up as individuals and answer a questionnaire about their experience level, and we assign teams with the goal of making them as competitive and fair as possible.
We also play pick up on Monday nights at Watson Park - we welcome anyone to join, especially beginners!
Once summer league ends in mid August, pick up will also take place on Wednesday nights through early October.
And in the winter, we host an indoor pick up night as well at Hartford High.
In addition, there is a higher level local co-ed ("mixed") team called Enough Monkeys that practices twice a week and hosts and travels to tournaments. In fact, they are hosting a tournament next weekend (Aug 4th - 5th) at Sachem fields in Hanover.
There are a lot of opportunities in the area to play ultimate, no matter what commitment and competitive level someone is looking for, and we're always looking to get the word out!
