The Selectboard was presented with a “Sale and Distribution of Marijuana Prohibition Ordinance” at its last meeting. Town Manager Herb Durfee did not endorse the ordinance, indicating it was an example, as a follow-up to the Selectboard discussion at its June 27 meeting.   See Marijuana Regulations On Selectboard Agenda.

The ordinance would ban the “sale or distribution of Marijuana [and] Marijuana-infused products”. It also bans the operation of a medical marijuana dispensary. Dispensary is broadly defined by the Vermont statute and includes licensed cultivation and transportation. Finally, the ordinance bans the consumption of marijuana on land and in public buildings owned by the Town. [Unknown is whether the Town can ban consumption on school district property.]

Violations are civil matters, enforced by the police with a maximum fine of $500.

Hemp products, including edibles containing CBD, are apparently not banned. Banning such products was an original concern of the resident who raised the issue. See Zoning Regulations Banning Marijuana And Hemp Products To Be Discussed.  Recently, Abracadabra Coffee in Woodstock release its CBD-infused cold brew coffee that will be available in various retail outlets, reported Seven Days

It was not clear when the Selectboard would next consider any ordinance related to marijuana or hemp products.
