Two Pitchers Team Up As Lebanon Cal Ripken 12U All-Stars Shut Out Fall River, MA in New England Regionals

Lebanon remains undefeated.

After a brief weather delay, the Lebanon 12U All-Stars defeated the Eastern Massachusetts champion team Maplewood, of Fall River, in a tight 1-0 game on Sunday, July 15 at the New England Regional Cal Ripken 12U 60’ Tournament in Waterville, Maine. Lebanon’s two pitchers, Sam Bates and Bennett Hewett, combined to throw a shutout.

The low-scoring final tally is an indication of the strong pitching on both sides. Lebanon pitchers combined to strike out one while walking four, while Maplewood’s Sebastian R sat down six while walking two in a complete game. Sam Bates was credited with the victory for Lebanon. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over three innings. Bennett Hewett threw three innings in relief and recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Lebanon.

Sebastian R took the loss for Maplewood. He went five innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out six.

Bodie Benoit had the hot bat on Sunday and led Lebanon with three hits in three at-bats. The third inning scoring drive began when Bodie Benoit doubled on a line drive to left field, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and was batted in by Zach Thompson to score the one and only run in the contest.

Hits: Bodie Benoit (3); Sam Bates, Bennett Hewett, Zach Thompson (1).
RBI: Zach Thompson (1).
Runs: Bodie Benoit (1).

Bodie Benoit makes it to 3rd base on a passed ball in the 3rd inning. His 3 hits in 3 at-bats led him to be named Lebanon's Player of the Game.

On Monday, July 16 at 5:30 PM, Lebanon plays Maine state champs Andy Valley in their final game before being seeded for the single-elimination championship bracket. Both Andy Valley and Lebanon are currently 2-0 in the New England Regional Tournament so far.

Standings after 2 days of pool play.

After today’s win, the team spent some downtime playing laser tag, going out for a team dinner with the coaches, and coming back to the hotel pool. All part of the travel team experience - and part of middle school summer experience with friends.

Thanks to Troy Shareiko for sharing the great photos, and to the team for sharing their GameChanger stats and game recaps for me to work with.
