Jugglers, Acrobats and Aerialists to Touch Down in WRJ
The up-and-coming young circus troupe Cirque Us will be back at Northern Stage’s Barrette Center for the Arts next weekend, June 23 and 24. Cirque Us’s vibrant, mold-breaking stops in White River Junction the past two years have brought them a loyal local following.
This year, their show is directed by Jesse Dryden, who for a decade created a series of memorable Circus Smirkus shows and is now an instructor at Canada’s National Circus School. The Cirque Us troupe, made up mostly of Circus Smirkus alums, includes Delaney Bayles, a jaw-droppingly talented juggler from Salt Lake City (with these world records to her name); Cam Zweir, a buoyant acrobat fresh off the national tour of Pippin; the thrillingly fearless aerialist Marieke Dailey (you’ll remember her from some throat-catching high-up-on-a-rope moments with Smirkus); London-trained hand-balancer and straps artist Justin Durham; and the Upper Valley’s own Sam Gurwitt, a physical comedian (okay, that's a clown to us rubes, but not the wig-and-makeup kind) and pole artist.
Their brand-new show, Starstruck, surrounds a cosmos-gazing astronomer with 9 acrobatic — and occasionally mischievous — “planets,” each a celebrity (you’ll have to guess who’s who) in his or her own star turn. You can learn more about Cirque Us in ArtfulEdge, and get an early glimpse of the show being put together in Upper Valley Fun.
The show is at 2 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24. Get tickets here: http://www.thecirqueus.com/2018-summer-tour.html
