The Little Engine That Could

It's been a steep climb, but the Waterbury Rail Art Project is nearing completion. Randolph artist Phil Godenschwager takes us behind the scenes


Phil Godenschwager puts the finishing touches on a 57-foot sculpture that will be installed on the side of a railroad bridge at the north entrance to Waterbury, Vermont. A locomotive engine pulls a procession of cars in the shape of Waterbury architectural landmarks; the sculpture will be backlit, silhouetting the train in a soft glow.
