It Costs $11,600 Per Resident to Govern Vermont

Newly released reports by the Census Bureau tabulated the combined expense of state and local government in Vermont at  $11,600 per resident in 2015. 

New Hampshire, by contrast, spent about  $8,300 per resident in 2015.

So where did expenses diverge the most between the two states?

Vermont spent about $4,100 per capita (that’s per capita, not per student) on education. New Hampshire spent about $3,000 per capita on education. Vermont spent about $3,500 per capita on Health and Welfare. New Hampshire barely spent $2,000 in per capita in the same category.
